Governors

Letter from the Chair of the Local Governing Board

Hello,

My name is David Lowder, and I would like to introduce myself as the new Chair of Board of Governors at North Fawdon Primary, as from December 2021.

I joined the Board of Governors February 2021 as a link governor for Special Needs, but as a result of recent changes in the Board of Governors, I have now accepted a new role as Chair as of December 2021.  I have taken over from Sarah O’Malley and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her on behalf of the Local Governing Board for her commitment and dedication while she held the position of Chair. Sarah will remain on the Board of Governors and I am sure she will continue to offer her time and expertise.

I volunteered to be a school governor because I am newly retired, and I have been involved in the field of education for quite a few years and I thought I could give back and support a school like North Fawdon Primary School. I was a Headteacher/Principal of several British Style International schools, in countries like Russia, Sweden, South Korea and Southeast Asia, as well as the UK, so I do have an insight and experience of how schools work and the tremendous demands they face daily.

I now live in Cullercoats, so I am familiar with the region and only a Metro ride away from the school. When I am not involved in the school, I like to cold water swim in Cullercoats bay, walk and cycle and Play golf. I have two grown up daughters, one is a nanny in Northern Ireland and the other has just started her teaching career in a primary school near Cheltenham.

We currently live in very challenging times now, and schools are being constantly interrupted by the threat of COVID related issues, but I know Mrs. Elliot and all the staff at North Fawdon Primary School are working very hard to maintain a broad and child focused learning programme for your children and will continue to do so. The school has introduced several new developments to life at North Fawdon Primary in terms of a new bespoke curriculum for the 21st century, physical refurbishment both internally and externally, a new library is being developed, an active Eco-schools committee, to mention just a few.

I hope when we can live our daily lives in a more relaxed atmosphere, there will be more opportunities for the school and the parent community to come together to further develop that all important partnership.

Chair

Our Local Governing Board

At North Fawdon Primary School, our Governors work closely with the Headteacher. Their role is to make key decisions that affect the education well being of our pupils. They are vital to the successful running of the school.

Parent representatives form part of the Governing Body. They are an important link between parents and the school. You can elect parent representatives and express your views and suggestions about the school to them.

If you would like to help our school and share your expertise by becoming a Governor, please contact the Headteacher who can tell you more about what is involved. If you would like to find out further information about school governance please click this link.

Our Governors are invited to all of our exciting events throughout the school year.

Our Chair of Governors is David Lowder who can be reached at North Fawdon Primary School, Brotherlee Road, Fawdon, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 2SL.
